Where to Shop Furniture + Interiors in Portland with Karie Higgins

The second of our mini series (you can read the first one here) about where to shop in Portland. This week it's all about FURNITURE + INTERIORS!

We asked Karie Higgins, an interior styling and shopping pro where she likes to shop and source for her projects in Portland and here is where she took us in a quick 2 hour tour.

Let's go!

I love all things homeware as we are currently trying to expand our offerings here at Yo, but I also really love interiors for my own personal project - our new family home in SW Portland that we moved into last year. I asked Karie for some interior advice and her expert eye to help with the new space and pieces (which you can see a sneak peek here!)

Karie owns an incredible Air B and B in Oregon called River Cabaan and I love her point of view and style so knew she would be the perfect person to take us on a quick lunchtime tour of where she shops for clients and her projects right here in Portland where she calls home. All photos by Kaitlin Green.

Spartan Shop

Spartan Shop has been in business for a long time. A great Portland staple and what used to be more of a traditional interior store is now a very inspiring gallery space featuring art and furniture pieces sourced globally by Currie Person. It's a contemporary, welcoming and stunning space on the East side of Portland. It was lovely to see Jenny Rice there who also makes and sells her own ceramics on display there (hi Jenny!)

Wilma

Wilma World is a fantastic, modern and vintage furniture showroom curated by Annie Brett. Located inside the Commerce Eastside building (so you need to make an appointment to visit) and just a few minute drive from Spartan. We loved chatting to Annie about her latest finds and her amazing pieces (I fell in love with those red chairs...)
Top tip: sign up for her newsletter for first access to the new in.

Storied Objects

Storied Objects recently opened last year in downtown Portland (just off Burnside). A beautiful, curated shared space with Shogun's Gallery, the store offering objects for daily lives. I loved chatting to Alex, the co-owner, about her vision, buying and background story. Right next door to Courier Coffee make sure to add this to your next visit.

The Good Mod

The Good Mod was one of the first places I shopped when I moved to Portland 15 years ago for our first home and I still cherish the yellow metal bench we bought there. Filled with mid century and vintage pieces, I'm happy to see this spot still thriving (online too)

Design Within Reach SALE ROOM!

And lastly, not our usual small business spotlight but a great insider tip. Inside the old HAY space within DWR there is a secret sale room - all past DWR floor items are 40% off or more. Make sure to ask to have a look at that space or you won't know it exists behind a closed door.

Top tip: Make sure to stop off at KURE, our favorite juice bar, right opposite on your way out.

Other spots to visit we didn't have time to stop by :

Thanks for reading and coming along with us for a fun few hours, we would love to hear from you about your favorite places to shop locally, or online or even hot spots where you live - please let us know so we can update our blog post ! xx
