After a series of exhibitions and freelance work, Milou gained graphic design experience during a three-year commitment to fashion brand Scotch & Soda, where she designed prints and patterns for many collections. Since 2013, she has been working independently. With recent customers including ELLE, L'Officiel, Love Stories Intimates, Loversanddriftersclub, Trumaker, and Tommy Hilfiger, Milou felt like the time was right to start building her own brand: Hôtel Magique.
During her USA trip in 2015 she stumbled upon a piece of amazing Japanese golden momi paper. Back at her studio in Amsterdam’s city center, she painted a hotel-vibe artwork on the momi paper as an art piece for her home, saying 'Hôtel Magique - 8th Avenue & 51st - Open crazy late'. She fell in love with the word 'Magique' which planted the seed to build a brand with magique-related artworks, combining both her love for hotel nights and paper goods.
